This tree can be legally cut to be used as a Christmas Tree on the Cedar City Ranger District, Powell Ranger District, Escalante Ranger District and the Teasdale Ranger District. The branches are flimsy and droop down when Christmas tree ornaments are placed on them. The trees on this side of the photo are Douglas Fir. When comparing the Douglas Fir and White Fir, there is quite a difference in the color and length of the needles and fullness of the tree shape. This picture shows the two trees growing next to each other. Notice in the pictures that the needles grow singly and upwards toward the sun, leaving the underside of the branch flat. The bark of the White Fir is thin, gray and smooth in the young trees. The yellow-green cones grow erect on the upper branches and are thee to five inches long. The white fir gets its name from the silvery blue needles. The two or three inch long needles are Flat, Friendly, and Flexible. White Fir commonly grows at elevations between 7,000 feet and 9,500 feet.
